Viviane Namaste is Full Professor at the Simone de Beauvoir Institute, Concordia University. She is the author of numerous books related to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Her most recent work (in collaboration with T.H. Vukov, Robin Williamson, M. Lafrenière, M. Leroux, Jacky Vallée and Joseph Jean-Gilles) is HIV Prevention and Bisexual Realities. Her work Invisible Lives : The Erasure of Transsexual and Transgendered People (University of Chicago Press, 2000) won the Outstanding Book Award of the Gustavus Myers Center for the Study of Bigotry and Human Rights in North America (2001). She has received numerous awards for her research and activism, including the 2009 Award for Action given by the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network and Human Rights Watch, the Grand Prix du Conseil Québécois des Gais et des Lesbiennes (2010), and an Hommage aux Héros from the Fondation Farha (2010).
